How do I get the schedule?
I don’t have a full team. Can I still play?
How do the games work?
- Format: Half-ice, 4-on-4 (four skaters plus a goaltender). Two games run at once, separated by “mite boards.” Scores and statistics are not kept.
- Timing: Each ice slot is 27 minutes — 2 minutes to enter and warm up, 1 minute to line up, and a 24-minute running clock. The clock starts at the published start time with no stoppages (puck drop is about 3 minutes into the slot). The next game’s players take the ice as the previous game exits.
- Substitutions: The two competing teams share a bench, with substitutes on the side where their game is played. A buzzer sounds every 90 seconds for changes; play continues from where the puck is, or the official spots it in a neutral location. If a team has no goaltender, we provide a “shooter tutor” sized for the mite nets.
- Face-offs & restarts: One center-ice face-off starts the game — there are no other face-offs. After a goal or a frozen puck, the team that scored tags up on their defending side of center; the other team advances the puck immediately, and defenders may engage once it crosses the center red line.
- No offside or icing.
What are the rules on penalties, checking, and conduct?
- Officials: One SHOA-contracted referee runs each game — puck drops, retrieving pucks after goals, calling penalties, and managing player changes.
- Penalties: A minor penalty (such as tripping or hooking) awards a goal and puck possession to the non-offending team. A major penalty results in ejection from the game with no replacement.
- No fighting: Fighting is strictly prohibited — any player who fights is ejected from the tournament with no replacement.
- No body-checking: Any intentional, overt, or reckless body contact results in a minor or major penalty.
- No slap-shots: If the stick rises above the knee on a shot or pass, possession changes. Stick contact with the puck above the waist also changes possession.
- Out of play: If the puck leaves the surface or is unplayable, the referee awards possession based on who directed it out; defenders give about two stick-lengths of space to restart.
- Conduct: Parents and spectators are expected to follow all USA Hockey codes of conduct. Failure to do so may result in ejection from the Rampage.
